I promise, Jason said knowing that when he made a promise he could not break
it. Danny stopped talking on the computer and curled up tight by Jason. He just held him,
and kept the promise in his mind. He was already making plans. He just now leaned back
knowing, or hoping, all would be okay.
Chapter 15
Moving Danny into the attic was a joy for Jason. His mother had said that Danny
could move in. They brought all of his stuff up and put it in the hallway. The two had
begun a cleaning frenzy. It was early May, and so the windows were open as they
cleaned. Jason worked for the makers of Lysol so they had plenty of cleaning supplies on
behalf of the company. The cleaning, the incense, and the scented candles began to make
the room feel very cozy. The floor got a nice layer of Teflon, which made your feet glide
along it.
The room was still under construction when they both needed a break. It was now
evening so it was getting brisk. The windows remained cracked, just because the fresh air
wrapped around them. It was welcome like a cool blanket. Having bout a dresser the boys
began to put it together. I wonder if that boy could help us. Danny said when they
looked at the directions, and their jaws dropped.
What boy? Jason asked.
Your neighbor boy
Oh, Shane? Jason asked.
I dunno, if that s the hot one that was out there.
Yeah, but he s straight.
So, never stopped me before Danny said chuckling. Jason just smiled. Did he
actually say that? I though he liked me? Maybe he s just making conversation. Jason
really wasn t sure. He just let it go out, like the candle in the window after a nice cool
gust blew through it. The night lasted long with them talking and just having a plain good
time. From outside the window you would have seen two young men enjoying the
company of each other. You would have thought they had a lot of catching up to do.
They just talked the night away, before they both said good night and closed their eyes.
Jason went to sleep that night a bright beacon of happiness. His whole body seemed to
float.
Jason was up the next morning with the sun. He was preparing for work, when he
thought he should call off. He left the room making as little noise as he could. He made it
to the cordless phone, but realized that he had to go to work, or it would be a bad
paycheck. He put the phone back feeling defeat. He continued to prepare for work
constantly glancing at Danny sleeping. It all seemed weird, how he only met Danny about
a month ago, and now they were living together. Jason, knowing it was about time to
leave, left a note for Danny. He sat back on his bed. Unsure as to what to write, he began
with the basics.
Good Morning Danny,
I had to leave for work so you know my number if you need me. After 8:30 the
house will be empty. The computer password is Linda. We don t have long distance on
the phone so you cant make those calls. I showed you where the bathroom is. If you get
hungry I left you seven dollars to get a drink and something to eat. There s a great café,
just down the street. I also left you a few cigarettes to help the time pass.
C ya,
Jason
He read over the note, and was unhappy with it, but had no time to re-write it. He
got four cigarettes out and placed them on top of then money. He stood there for a
moment taking in Danny s beauty. He really didn t want to go to work. He left the room,
and made the descent to his car.
Time traveled so slow at work, he was unable to focus, and he got reprimanded
for telling a lady that he personally would look into something. Danny had called but
Jason couldn t talk long.
Hey
Hey, call me back at two, I have lunch then.
Okay, but Linda isn t working.
Are you capitalizing the L ?
Yeah, Danny responded with a small stress in his voice.
Well don t, call me at two.
Okay
Jason hated hanging up but he had to do his work. They talked at lunch, and then
the whole time Jason was coming home at six. Kyle, Jason s brother, was the first home
that day. He was surprised to see someone he didn t know sitting at the computer. Kyle
hadn t been informed of anyone new living in the house. He was pissed, and called his
mother screaming about someone else living there. Kyle scared Danny.
He looks like a giant. He was telling him, as Jason pulled up in front of this
house.
Aww, I m sorry. Jason said slamming his door shut.
Where are you? Danny asked.
